In recognition of the vision and the work of Dr John Dunlop, founder of the Clinical Advisory Pharmacists Association (CAPA), and his promotion of innovative pharmacist services in primary care, CAPA established an annual $500 award for an essay.

John has always been enthusiastic and supportive of new ideas and opportunities for clinical pharmacists and for research. He believes pharmacists should have pride in innovations they had undertaken, and supported research and visionary thinking. In keeping with his thinking, the essay topic was deliberately broad. The entrants were required to demonstrate innovative thinking about the future for clinical pharmacists, demonstrate need for their innovation, and describe how they address inequity within the delivery model

The judges had a very difficult time deciding the winner as the entries were all of an incredibly high standard.

CAPA is delighted to announce the winner of the inaugural Dr John Dunlop award is Kerry Muller.

Kerry’s essay which focuses on her work and innovation with establishing a sustainable role working with patients via the ACC pain management contract. The quality and outcomes of Kerry’s work with patients and pain teams in a variety of settings firmly established the benefits of having an appropriately qualified clinical advisory pharmacist for this work, to the extent that they are now actively specified and sought after for this role.

Our congratulations to the other entrants on superb essays.
