Current international guidelines for type 2 diabetes management include the use of two new classes of medication: sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, in people with established kidney disease, heart disease or heart failure or with high cardiovascular risk.
