The experience of New Zealand pharmacists serving in the Great War is largely shrouded in mystery. We know they enlisted as dispensers and could rise no further than the rank of staff sergeant, but what did they spend their days doing? University of Otago student Lea Doughty has set her sights on answering this and other questions as the subject of her PhD. Pharmacy Today reporter Jonathan Chilton-Towle spoke to Ms Doughty about her research as she uncovers the secret lives of the pharmacists who served.
