A low-FODMAP diet is often recommended for irritable bowel syndrome
KIRSTEN ASKS IF you could recommend a probiotic or laxative to help her manage her irritable bowel syndrome, which she was diagnosed with last year. She says constipation, bloating and abdominal pain are her main symptoms. The laxatives her doctor gave her tend to make her bloating worse, although they do help her go to the toilet. She finds her condition frustrating, and it affects her social life and when eating out with friends.
Treatments should be tailored depending on the most troublesome symptoms or to minimise identified trigger factors
