Te Whatu Ora employed Allied, Scientific, and Technical workers have approved the pay equity settlement agreed between Te Whatu Ora, the New Zealand Public Service Association Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi (PSA) and the Association of Professional and Executive Employees (APEX).

“Our Allied, Scientific, and Technical employees deliver vital care across our health system. They are experts across a range of professions, including direct care, diagnostic procedures, and making sure safety of care is assured,” said Margie Apa, Chief Executive Te Whatu Ora.

Approval of the offer will see significant pay lifts for around 18,000 highly skilled and valued professionals, in historically undervalued roles.

It means salary increases of approximately 20% for most of the workforce, an interim pay adjustment back dated to 30 November 2022, and a lump sum payment of up to $10,000.

“As New Zealand’s largest employer, gender pay discrimination has been a key priority for Te Whatu Ora, and this outcome, in addition to recent settlements for our nurses and midwives, is testament to that.

“These settlements reflect the efforts of Te Whatu Ora and the unions over several years to progress the pay equity process.

“We also recognise the value of services delivered by private sector health service providers and we will continue to work with them on actions to strengthen the health system over the short and long term.”
